Pismo - Part 1 - The Beach

Last weekend we were in Pismo Beach, California for the wedding of Mallory and Todd (Eric's brother). I was a bit concerned we would all freeze since we are official desert rats now, but am happy to report we adjusted quite well to the high 60 degree temps.

We spent most of our time that we were not involved with wedding festivities at the beach!

The mornings were overcast, but each afternoon the sun came out. There was also just enough wind for kite flying, but not so much that it caused any sand flying. Thank goodness!

The water was so cold, Sadie and I didn't do much more than walk in it. But Eric, Megan and Jackson all went boogie boarding. Megan and her cousin Sienna were pros:

Megan told Eric, "It's so cold, but it's so fun I just can't stop."

That night I noticed that little Sade received her first ever sunburn.:(  Luckily it didn't seem to bother her much the rest of our trip.

Friday night, while Eric, his Dad, and brothers had a bonfire on the beach, us women folk took the kids for ice cream, and a walk to the pier. We were so fortunate that our hotel was just steps away from the beach, the Pier, and downtown Pismo.

We had 11 kids with us, and received numerous stares.

Acting crazy at the Pier:

Saturday morning the boys were once again busy, golfing this time, so we took the kids to climb some rocks.

We also went out for cinnamon rolls. However Jackson chose to get a Rice Krispy Treat as big as his head. I think he had 3 bites.

Before leaving on Sunday, Eric and I took the kids to the Pier again, this time during the daylight hours.

Jackson Said

Last weekend while in California, we drove past this building which Jackson happened to notice was named the Oceana Casino.

He then said incredulously: "They call THAT a casino?"

He's a true Las Vegan.

Summer - Week 2

We started off week 2 with more swimming!

Sadie LOVES this dog, Tawny. She would rather sit next to her than get in the pool.

We also went hiking up at Mt. Charleston. Our first hike was to Robber's Roost. A pretty easy hike, and good for those with small children.

Oh....Sadie. She is not a good hiker. Before we left I tried to guilt her into actually hiking and not being carried the entire time by showing her a picture off my friend Cheryl's blog of her little girl hiking unassisted. It didn't work. Sadie insisted on being carried.

Luckily not by me!

At one point she decided to walk, but I assure you it did not last long.

I love the above picture because it looks like Megan is about ready to punch me.

We also hiked another trail (whose name escapes me) that is 13 miles long. Our children officially wimped out on us at this point, and complained A LOT. Needless to say we didn't make it far.

We did end up stopping in a dry river bed to play some games that Eric made up. Including one that involved these sticks.

We also SWAM SOME MORE!

 

Had some friends over.

And signed up for the Summer Reading Program at the Library. We also finally managed to find and check out a copy of, "James & The Giant Peach", which is the book my children are supposed to all be reading for our book club meeting in a couple of weeks.

Other Things To Note:

I got my eyebrows waxed and had to deal with the 5 day long red skin irritation I am afflicted with after waxing. Incidentally, the lady that does my waxing obsessively asks me, "Whose been doing your waxing?" When I patiently explain that I have not gone to anyone else, and that I only come to her, SHE DOES NOT BELIEVE ME! She just keeps asking and asking. It is weird.

I continued the joyous experience of running errands alone. And even managed to go out to dinner with Eric one night.

Our week was cut a bit short, because we left last Thursday for a long weekend in California. The post for that is forthcoming, as soon as I can find the energy to go through the 250 + photos I took!

Father's Day 2011

Any holiday, celebrated on a Sunday, when you have church at 9 am is difficult. But we did manage to fit in breakfast and presents before leaving.

Eric loved each and every one.

I could not come up with anything to get Eric, but luckily on Saturday it came to me! Something he actually needed: A case for his cell phone. I was pretty proud of myself.
