Swim Season

We have spent a lot of time this summer pool hopping! I have determined that I must subconsciously choose my friends based on whether or not they have pools, so I can insure that my children and I will not melt in the heat. It's basically survival of the fittest. Right? I am just grateful my friends do not choose me based on the condition of my backyard in the summer. However they are always welcome to come over and jump on the trampoline any time. I will even put a sprinkler under it.

Just a few swimming pics:

I know the white legs are shocking. I am approximately a half a shade darker now, after spending days outside.

Generally when we get home from swimming Sade goes right down for her nap. That means she goes to sleep with wet, sunscreen added hair. Yesterday she woke up with it looking like this:

It is quite the look!

I would now like to take a minute to complain. Tuesday night Eric was out of town so I decided to take the kids to family swim night at the Silver Mesa Pool. Here follows my list of gripes:

  • When we arrived the line to get in snaked through the parking lot. Largely because they only had one person accepting money!
  • After swimming for 5 minutes I heard the life guards blowing their whistles and telling everyone to get out of the pool. I then looked to my left and saw POO floating not even 5 feet from where I was standing! It was horribly disgusting.
  • We then waited while they cleaned it up, and then waited another 30 minutes to get back in the pool. At this point I tried to convince my children to leave, but they insisted on staying.
  • The all teenage lifeguard staff, who seem much more interested in hanging out together than in doing any sort of lifeguard duties.
  • Now, I am really quite liberally minded when it comes to swimwear. However even I was shocked by some of the outfit choices. And I am not talking about the adults! I am talking about the pre-teens that were wearing some of the most unsupportive swimwear I have seen in some time. I saw a few body parts that I would not mind never seeing again.
  • Sadie cried or whined nearly the entire time we were there!
But, Megan and Jackson had a great time!!

Precursor To Camping

Sunday, we took a drive to Camp Stimson. I have been before, but could not remember exactly how to get there, so I wanted to make sure I knew the way before heading up to girls camp next week. The Stake Camp Director from another Stake was there watching over everything, but she was nice enough to let us explore.

It was a little on the chilly side, but beautiful.

We did a bit of exploring, and then headed over to the rope bridge.

The last time I went on this bridge I was 7 months pregnant! It seemed just as hard this time.

Jacksey was next. He did great, but I am not made to watch my children do things like this. I smile and encourage them to throw them off that I am actually terrified they are in such a precarious position.

The bridge is long!

Megan was quite terrified the whole time.

Sadie on the other hand was completely fearless.

Here she is telling Eric to swing back and forth! Of course he obliged.

We headed over to one of the amphitheaters where Megan entertained us with a song and dance routine.

Sade's did a little dancing herself.

Of course we took a few family pics before leaving:

This is the first time Sadie decided to participate in the funny face pictures. I couldn't be happier!

12 X 12 - June 2010

I started my Saturday morning off with a run.

I generally carry my IPOD in my hand when I run so I can fast forward non-running songs. Air Supply just does not provide the needed motivation. I also run with pepper spray tucked into the waistband of my shorts. I'm not particularly worried about people attacking me, but rather dogs.

I ran 1.9 miles this particular morning. Last week was a bad running week for me (I was sick and then Eric was out of town), so I have not been progressing quickly. I literally have no idea how in the world I will ever be ready to run the relay race. It seems like the impossible dream at this point.

After getting ready for the day, we made a run to Target. We had to buy a present for a birthday party Megan was going to, and toilet paper. We had been out of toilet paper for 3 days! I know that is extreme, but it just illustrates what a home body I am. I never want to leave the house to go to the store. We had been using paper towels. On a funny side note, when we finally had toilet paper again Sadie did not want to use it, and kept asking for the other toilet paper (paper towels).

Earlier that morning when I had been blow drying my hair I started to feel fairly light-headed and both my eyes went blurry. So blurry that I could not even read the book I was reading. It was quite freaky, but only lasted for about 15 minutes then went away. Then as I was leaving for Target I got a horrible headache. I took some Ibuprofen and went on my way. But as I was shopping at Target, my condition deteriorated! I was positive I was going to throw up in the middle of the toy aisle, so I hurried my kids up, and we rushed home. I will spare you the details, but I was majorly stomach flu sick. Megan was due at a birthday party in half an hour, and Jackson and Sadie were asking me to make them lunch. Both tasks seemed positively overwhelming, so I did something I have never done before: I called Eric at work and asked him to come home and complete those tasks for me. Luckily he was able to, and I went to bed.

After putting Sadie down for her nap, and installing Jackson in front of the Wii, Eric went back to work. For some unknown reason (really I don't think it has ever happened before!), Sade's woke up way early from her nap. Luckily she just climbed in bed with me, cuddled up, and fell back asleep. I stayed in bed for 4 hours, but when I got up, I was feeling much better. Just a bit of dizziness remained.

This is what the living room looks like when I take to my bed. This is only one afternoons worth! Can you imagine if I never cleaned up?

Soon after Megan got home from her 5 hour party! 4 hours were spent swimming.

While we waited for Eric to get home, Sadie and I painted our nails. Sade ventured out of the pink family and chose purple for her toes. In the end she wasn't quite happy with her choice, and told me, "I want pink, actually." Actually is her new word of choice, added to the end of many sentences.

I was feeling a bit hungry at this point, so when Eric got home we went to Zabas.

We stopped by the mall on the way home, and saw lots of cute things, like this cowboy hat, but ended up leaving empty handed.

However, we did not leave until we rode the escalator a few times, you know, just for fun!

When we got home I had to work on my Young Women's lesson. I had planned on finishing it up Saturday afternoon, but obviously that did not work out. So I stayed up late preparing.

I had mentioned to Eric that we had no hot water, so before bed he did a little home repair work. Our pilot light had gone out. I was hoping that relighting it would fix the problem, but it has gone out every morning and evening since! Why do major appliances have to break down?
