Kanarraville Falls

While in St. George for the 4th of July weekend, we decided to head up to Kanarraville (about 10 minutes from Cedar City) to hike the Kanarraville Falls. We had heard some great things about it, and it did not disappoint! I believe it to be THE BEST hike we have ever taken with the kids. You should go. Seriously.

 

You start off by hiking about 3/4's of a mile along a dirt rode.

 

 

It was a hot day so we were all relieved and excited when we hit the creek:

For a while you can choose to hike through the creek or on the dirt trail. Of course everyone chooses the creek! So awesome.

 

 

The creek is mostly about a foot deep, but it does get a bit deeper in places. About up to Sade's waist:

More creek hiking. It was a busy day so at times we had a lot of extra hiking friends:

 

 

As per usual, Eric was wearing one of his Seahawks shirts. And as per usual it brought him a lot of attention. Whenever he wears one it is like he is a celebrity! Seriously. We endure constant chants of "Seahawks" from random men, and are accosted (verbally and in a nice way) by many 49ers fans. But we are never, and I repeat never approached by Bronco's fans (they are too embarrassed). He was stopped 3 times on the trail by different men to discuss football. Here is one occasion:

 

 

 

Eventually you come to a gorgeous slot canyon:

 

 

And then to the first "big" waterfall. There is a ladder of sorts on the side to help you climb up:

 

 

Eric and I were not thinking correctly so we sent the kids up first (one of us should have gone up first to help at the top). But luckily the people at the top were all so nice and two men gave us all a hand. Disembarking from the ladder was a lot harder than I thought it would be!

We continued hiking up the canyon for about 15 more minutes before the thunder, lightning and rain started. I would like to remind everyone that we were in a slot canyon, and my kids have seen the Springs Preserve flash flood exhibit approx. 1.2 million times so they were a bit nervous and ready to head back. Plus they were soaken wet (from the creek and now the rain). Poor Jackson and Sadie couldn't stop shivering. The majority of the people hiking decided to head back too, so the wait to climb down the ladder was about 30 minutes long.

As we left the slot canyon and the rain stopped the kids started to warm up a bit and we had a very pleasant hike out:

I would do this hike again in a heartbeat.



4th of July - 2014

When I realized that the 4th of July was falling on a Friday, which meant a 3 day weekend, I immediately knew I wanted to go out of town. But not too far. So St. George it was!

 

Tucker took his customary seat on Sade's lap on the way there:

 

 

After dropping him off at the hotel we headed out to dinner. The weather in St. George was really nice, and I was overjoyed that we could sit on the patio to eat. It really couldn't have been better.

After dinner we made a quick stop at the hotel room and arrived to find Tucker anxiously awaiting our arrival. We almost died from the cuteness:

 

 

And although we felt bad leaving him, we did just that and ventured over to the St. George temple. We spent quite a lot of time in the visitors center and then went onto the grounds to take some pics:

 

 

It was starting to get a bit dark, so went in search of somewhere great to watch the fireworks. And happily we found that great place on the top of a large hill.

It was a good 4th of July.
