Sadie's Birthday Celebration

On their birthday the kids get to decide what they want to do. When I asked Sadie what she wanted to do, she told me she wanted to go to the Princesses houses, or to Dora's house. Hmmmm....I suggested we go see the movie Tangled, and luckily she agreed.

After the movie, we went to dinner, where Sade danced to the background music and showed off some of her moves.

After dinner it was time to open presents.

Then it was time for cake! Sadie decorated it by herself with these edible princess stickers.

Blowing out the candles took quite a few tries, even though she had been practicing her blowing skills all day.

But her birthday wasn't over yet. After the steamers came down, she partied it up.

At 3

My baby, is 3 today.....

At 3....

• She is not a picky eater.
• She asks for Eric or I (mostly Eric, because he is the preferred parent) to tell her a story every night before bed. Her current favorites are Rapunzel, or Cinderella (if I am putting her to bed), and Goldilocks & The Three Bears (if Eric is putting her to bed). Last night she asked Eric if the Mama Bear cooked the porridge in a microwave, and if the Bear Family had a fridge, a freezer, and carpet.
• Her favorite colors are pink and purple.

• She is obsessed with anything remotely princess themed.
• She is still deathly afraid of bugs and spiders.
• She plays a mean game of copy cat. She is truly the best at it of anyone in the family. If she is copying you, she not only copies the words you say, but also facial expressions and body movements.

• She is prone to fit throwing.
• She is also a SCREAMER.
• When she is mad, she will generally scream, start crying, run to her room, slam her door, throw herself on her bed, and then come out about 2 minutes later saying that she is happy now.
• She loves to dance and sing.

• Her current favorite show is Barney. While watching she stands in front of the T.V. and mimics, with amazing accuracy, the dances the kids do.
• She can shake her hips better than anyone I know.
• Whenever she sees a letter "S" she always says, "I start with that letter".
• She now insists on combing her hair by herself.

• She loves root beer.
• She snacks all day long, and always says she is hungry.
• If I ask her to do something she doesn't want to do, like clean-up, she usually says, "I'm too tired", and then goes and lays on the couch.
• Yesterday I asked her to pick up a blanket, and she told me, "I can't mom. I'm just a tiny girl."
• She rolls her eyes at us. A lot.

• She loves to have her legs and arms and back and belly tickled (softly with my fingernails).
• When I call her my baby, she tells me, "I am not your baby, I'm your kid!"

And she's right. 3 years old is all grown up. Soon she will be moving out.

Smarty Pants

I am a bit late in posting this:

Well, my kids made it through the first trimester of school (and so did I!). I am happy to report they both did very well. Megan received all A's (one of only 6 5th graders who did in the school) and awards for Great Attendance, and Principals Honor Roll.

Jackson also received all A's and an award for Principals Honor Roll (one of only 2 kids in his class).

And of course I have to mention Sadie, who graduated from Nursery last week!!!!

 

Ice Skating

Last week we took the kids ice skating. Megan has been once before but it was Jackson and Sadie's first time.

Sadie repeatedly requested that Eric just hold her and skate.

But of course we didn't listen.

We tried to get her to use these cool "ice skating helpers" (which I am sure is the correct term), but she hated them.

After skating for a while, her and I took a break. When I would ask her if she was ready to go back out, she would tell me, "No thanks, I'm just fine." Finally we persuaded her to go back out, and she seemed to take to it more. She even learned a few tricks!

When Eric would say jump, she would pull her legs up.

And when he said swish she would move her legs back and forth.

I was slightly worried about Jackson, since he is a TERRIBLE roller skater. But he surprised me.

He started out with a bit of help from the red helper.

Then had a little help from Dad.

But pretty soon he was off on his own.

He had quite a few tumbles, but was up very quickly.

Megan also started off with a bit of help:

But it didn't take long before she was off on her own. She was quite good, and didn't fall once.

It was quite fun for everyone. Even little Sade admitted that she had a good time.
